Amy is a keen children’s book nerd and spends a lot of time reading and reviewing picture books with her toddler, Fenrir. But it’s not all colourful pictures! Her passion is getting kids reading, and her life's mission is to get the right books in the right hands. Ask her for advice or recommend something to her and watch her eyes light up!
Asking for It is the kind of book you sit down to read and hours later, you haven’t moved as you turn the last page. This book left me astounded, which is exactly how it is meant to make you feel. This book is NOT for the faint hearted and deals with serious issues that are only suitable for mature readers. The author, Louise O’Neill captures the personalities and attitudes of the teens perfectly and elicits powerful feelings and a hyper-sensitivity to the issues they are involved in. I would put this in the same vein as Go Ask Alice (Anonymous) or In Ecstasy (Kate McCaffrey). Be warned: This book does not beat around the bush. It deals significantly with rape and drug use. It is honest and an incredible insight into a teenage girls mind when faced with a traumatic experience. 17+.
