Adrian McKinty was born in Northern Ireland and now lives in Melbourne. His novel In the Morning I’ll Be Gone won the 2014 Ned Kelly Award for best fiction and was named as one of the 10 best crime novels of 2014 by the American Library Association. Gun Street Girl is Adrian’s 16th novel and the fourth novel to feature Sean Duffy, the same protagonist in his Ned Kelly Award winning novel. Gun Street Girl is set in the mid 1980s. Sean is a Catholic police officer in the Royal Ulster Police Force who lives on a Protestant housing estate. In Gun Street Girl, Sean is called to investigate the deaths of a wealthy couple. It seems a cut and dried case as the couple’s son appears to have done the deed. Sean has the ability to find obtrusive clues and what he discovers leads to murky government services and even to American intelligence agencies. Duffy’s interesting ways of conducting investigations and dealing with his own foibles make this a fascinating read. The many twists and turns just add to the enjoyment. It’s no wonder Adrian McKinty is receiving so many accolades from both readers and other authors.
