2 Volume Set - AUSTRALIAN ABORIGINAL CULTURE SERIES N0. 9
The Arunta represents Spencer and Gillen's consummate account of an Aboriginal group untouched by modern civilisation - the Arunta, a large nomadic tribe living in the arid heartland of Australia.
Spencer states in his preface: "The aim of this work is to give as complete an account as possible, based upon years of close study, of the organisations, customs, beliefs and general culture of a people ... who have long since disappeared in other parts of the world ..."
The Work of Spencer and Gillen is pivotal to our knowledge and understanding of early Indigenous Australians, and The Arunta, first published in 1927, is based on their collaborative research from 1894 to 1902.
