Warren worked for newspapers and magazines from 1974 to 2019 based in Brisbane, Tasmania, Sydney, and the Blue Mountains, where he now lives. In the 1980s he wrote for National Cycling, Freewheeling, and Push-On cycling magazines. In 1988-1991 he was editor of sports trade magazines such as Sports & Leisure Retailer and in the 1990s wrote tourist guides.
